Role: Technician
Location: Baldock, Hertfordshire
Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a technically minded individual to join our client's established team in a varied, hands-on technical role supporting materials, products, manufacturing processes and technical development.

Our client is an established manufacturing business based in Baldock, Hertfordshire. They are looking for someone with a practical and inquisitive approach to technical work, who enjoys investigating problems, working with materials and processes, carrying out testing and finding practical solutions.

The role involves working closely with Operations, Quality, Sales, suppliers and customers, with responsibility for technical investigation, testing, process development, technical projects and supporting the day-to-day technical needs of the business.

Duties of a Technician

• Provide practical technical support to staff, including equipment set-up, production trials and testing
• Provide technical support to internal departments, including Production and Sales, advising on materials, products, applications and technical requirements
• Investigate technical issues relating to materials, products, equipment and manufacturing processes
• Carry out product and materials testing and determine appropriate testing or investigative approaches where required
• Create and test machine processing profiles before handover to Operations
• Work with Operations to support technical development, process improvements and troubleshooting
• Complete technical projects and provide regular progress updates
• Investigate product and process failures, using testing, technical information and practical investigation to identify causes and potential solutions
• Provide technical support to customers and suppliers where required
• Work with suppliers of materials, products and services on technical matters
• Develop, create and update technical documents and SOPs
• Support the training of staff in relevant technical procedures and SOPs
• Maintain accurate technical and Health & Safety documentation and records, following established systems and procedures
• Support the Quality department with customer complaints and product rejects, including technical investigation and documentation
• Support the Quality Manager with relevant ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ESG requirements
• Manage product and materials testing records and ensure relevant independent laboratory testing is maintained
• Occasional travel to customer and supplier sites in the UK or overseas may be required

What we would like from you

• A technically minded and practical approach, with an interest in understanding how things work and why something is happening
• Experience of practical testing, investigation or technical problem-solving
• Ability to investigate unfamiliar technical issues, identify what information or testing is required, and work towards a practical solution
• Previous experience in a technical, engineering, laboratory, manufacturing or similar environment would be advantageous
• A recognised qualification in Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Testing or a related technical subject would be advantageous
• Knowledge or practical experience of different material types, such as metals, plastics, rubbers, composites or adhesives, would be advantageous
• Ability to understand and work with technical information, specifications and test results
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing, investigation and documentation
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with staff, customers and suppliers
• Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks
• Comfortable working independently and taking responsibility for technical issues and projects
• Flexible and able to adapt to changing requirements
• Willingness to learn and develop knowledge across new materials, products, processes and equipment
• Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally when required
