Financial Controller
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday-Friday)
Job Type: Contract role for roughly 3 months beginning ASAP.
Location: Dunstable, Bedfordshire - Office Based

We are seeking an experienced and committed Financial Controller to join a dedicated Finance Team on a contract basis.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Financial Controller will oversee the Trust's financial operations, provide strong financial leadership and line-manage a team of finance professionals.

This is a key role within the organisation, responsible for maintaining strong financial controls, ensuring regulatory and statutory compliance, supporting effective financial planning and safeguarding the Trust's overall financial position.

You will join a collaborative finance team made up of experienced professionals, newer team members and colleagues working towards their finance qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all financial operations across the Trust.
• Line-manage, support and develop members of the Finance Team.
• Report directly to the CFO, providing accurate and timely financial information and advice.
• Ensure robust financial reporting and compliance with statutory, regulatory and Trust requirements.
• Support financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and monitoring across the Trust.
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, financial regulations and academy funding requirements.
• Support and coordinate external audits and regulatory reviews.
• Develop and improve finance processes, systems and internal controls.
• Analyse complex financial information and provide clear, commercially focused insight to support decision-making.

Candidate requirements:

• ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification, with significant experience in a financial management role.
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or in a similar senior finance position.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the confidence to interpret and communicate complex financial information.
• Strong financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting experience.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial management systems.
• Experience with PS Financials, Sage or FMS would be advantageous.
• A high level of accuracy, integrity and attention to detail.
• The ability to work collaboratively while also taking ownership and using initiative.
