Commercial Assistant / Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Location: Hatfield
Salary: £35,000 to £45,000
Type: Permanent / Full-time

An established, family-owned construction and fit-out business is looking for a Commercial Assistant / Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join its Operations team.

This is a great opportunity for someone with 1–3 years' experience who is looking to build their commercial skills through hands-on involvement in live projects.

Working closely with Project Managers, subcontractors and suppliers, the successful candidate will support the commercial delivery of projects from procurement through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Supporting project budgets, cost plans and forecasting
• Tracking costs, identifying variances and highlighting commercial risks
• Supporting variations, valuations and final accounts
• Preparing RFQs, analysing quotations and assisting with procurement
• Supporting subcontractor and supplier negotiations
• Managing orders and subcontractor packages against programme
• Maintaining accurate commercial and financial records
• Supporting weekly and monthly cost, risk and progress reporting
• Working with Project Managers to identify commercial risks and opportunities
• Using systems such as Procore to track costs, orders and procurement

About the Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

• 1–3 years' experience in Quantity Surveying or a similar commercial role
• Experience in construction, fit-out or a related industry
• Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills
• Good attention to detail and communication skills
• The ability to manage multiple priorities across live projects
• A proactive, commercially aware approach and willingness to learn

A Quantity Surveying or related qualification would be advantageous.
